Part-time Executives
Welcome to another Flexible Success newsletter. Each edition includes a tip, a quote, a question and an interesting read - all related to part-time and flexible work. It's designed to be quick and easy to digest, and to provide you with some food for thought for the week ahead.
Theme: Part-time Executives
A TIP
Do you aspire be an executive or senior leader in your organisation? Have you parked this idea for now, because flexibility is more important to you, and the two seem mutually exclusive?
Not everyone aspires to senior level roles of course, but if this resonates with you there is cause for hope!
The flexible work landscape is changing, and many organisations are starting to realise that flexibility is a smart business strategy, and not just a benefit that they're obliged to offer.
They're also starting to shift outdated views that only certain roles can be done flexibly, and realising that flexibility needs to be role modelled from the top.
A QUOTE
"Power part-timers are on the rise. There's a growing army of ambitious, high-performing business leaders working part time, proving that flexibility and ambition are not mutually exclusive." ― Karen Mattison, co-founder of Timewise
A QUESTION
What might be possible in your career if you shifted your beliefs about what kind of roles can be done part-time and flexibly?
AN INTERESTING READ
Every year, Timewise put together their Power 50 List, celebrating executives in flexible roles who are role modelling that "no sector is un-flexible, and no role too senior".
I found it so inspiring to look through the 2020 list, as I think that even the existence of this list shows things are changing when it comes to flexibility and senior roles. It's also great to see that 20% of the list are men, a step in the right direction for normalising that flexible work is for everyone.
If you're interested in reading the stories of people with specific kinds of work patterns or roles, you can filter the list by categories like Part-timers, Job-sharers, and Founders.
